Excellent question. Whilst every company might advertise similar features, we pride ourselves on the quality of life of our clients and hardware, and here’s how we do it.&#x20;

All of our hardware is racked, cabled and maintained by professionals with 15+ years in the networking or infrastructure industry.

Many only know the basics of hosting and how to setup hardware, but here at Zesty, we took a deep dive into [Hyper-V](https://docs.microsoft.com/en-us/windows-server/virtualization/hyper-v/hyper-v-technology-overview), Microsoft’s own virtualization product. This allows us to dig deep and squeeze every ounce of performance from each machine we rack.

## We invest into our product. <a href="#a659" id="a659"></a>

From our networking setup to the user who is connecting to the server, or even the site/IP the server is connecting to, we have thought of every step and scenario that could possibly happen. This gives everyone the advantage of being worry-free. Zesty offers the lowest latency network possible with optimized routes and subsea cables for international users.

Hardware wise, we’ve been using Intel Xeon, AMD EPYC and AMD Ryzen processors to allow our clients the best performance possible. Paired with Samsung NVMe’s and Arista+Juniper switches and routers, the setup is unbeatable and truly premium.

# Setting up your server

I just got my server, how do I connect and what should I do first?

First off, welcome to the Zesty Fam! We are glad to have you here with us. \
Second, don't be afraid to ask for help! We're always available to help clients. \

## Step 1 / Connecting to the server

## Step 2 / Securing your server

We make this as seamless as possible using our Zesty Tool: <https://zestytools.zesty.group/tools/zestytool>\
Download the tool onto your server after you connect to it. \
Do **NOT** change the port on your local machine. \
\
The reason we ask people to change their RDP port is to secure the server as much as they can. Even if the password is super secure, we want you to feel as safe as you can possibly be.&#x20;

You can also use the ZestyTool to enable brute force prevention on the server. Please remember to whitelist your home's IP address after you install this feature.&#x20;

## Step 3 / Setup your software

Make sure you run [windows updates](https://docs-servers.zesty.group/basics/how-to-update-windows) on your server. This will help with security and compatibility.\
We have included some links below in case you need them. &#x20;

If you need to install .NET 4.8, .NET 5.0 or .NET 6.0 for your software, follow the guide below.

The tool also includes software such as Notepad++, AYCD Toolbox, Google Drive, Kylin, etc.


# Need help choosing?

Know what to look for when choosing a provider.

## What do you actually get for you money?

You will get pure performance that will always be stable, whether it be servers, proxies or even just the support. We provide top quality support and hardware for all clients. With us, if you can run 2000 tests tasks while it's quiet then you'll be able to run those tasks during the drop. Our hardware is never oversold, and we give replies on an average of 5-10 minutes from when the ticket is opened to when the ticket is closed. \
\
All hardware and network are run in house. Unlike others, we do not lease hardware from other providers. From website to the hardware your product is running on, everything is built and developed in house.&#x20;

Here at Zesty, not only do you get top of the line performance, but you also get the feeling of being a real client of a company that cares about you. You are not just another customer on a list, we will do anything in our power to help you where you need it.&#x20;

## Support&#x20;

Look for a company that will reply to you when you open a ticket or ask for help. They are your backbone and will help when you're in need, in some cases they won't help until you figure it out yourself. Customer support is always needed. Certain companies will go out of their way to help clients with any need.

Make sure you get a response from an actual technician in times of need. Some companies will give you the runaround for hours before you get to speak to an actual person that can help you.\
\
Check if the provider gives any documentation or software to help give you a better experience. Documentation and support staff can go a long way if you need help during a crucial time.

Any company can advertise 24/7 support to you but not many can actually deliver that kind of true round the clock support.&#x20;

## Memory

Depending on your need, always get enough and possibly a bit more to have wiggle room. If you have lots of software that needs to be ran at the same time, make sure to choose your plan wisely.

Some programs require more RAM than others such as Google Chrome. If your software is chromium based, we'd recommend asking around to see how much RAM you need before purchasing a server.

## CPU

Depending on whether the VPS is virtualized using KVM or Hyper-V or any other form of virtualization, your server hardware may show that is has 12 vCores with only 6 cores or it'll just show 12 cores in total. What you want to look at is how these cores perform and how they're allocated to you, the user. Let's say Provider 1 allocates 6 vCores @ 100% and Provider 2 allocates 12 vCores @ 25%, the 6 vCore server will have better performance, now this depends on setup and hardware. Of course, a Xeon E3 will not perform the same as a Xeon E5.

## Network

If your software needs a lot of bandwidth to be able to burst during peak hours, make sure you choose a provider that will allow you to fully burst at max speed without any packet loss. Also check if the provider has any bandwidth caps or any hidden caps, generally most providers will give you much more than you need.&#x20;

Check if the provider gives you 1Gbps, 10Gbps, 40Gbps external link or anything in-between. This will help you download files faster or run network intensive applications without bottlenecks.&#x20;

If the provider advertises a number that you think isn't true, see whether this is their main uplink speed or the speed the client is able to receive externally.

## Storage

Software needs storage, some more than others. Look for providers who give a decent amount of storage with their servers. A rule of thumb at Zesty is to provide 25GB worth of NVMe storage per vCore allocated to the machine

Check whether the provider is using HDD's, NVMe's or SSD's. NVMe drives will help with your IOPS (input/output operations per second). Now this really matters, check what kind of hardware the provider is using for their storage. For example, a Crucial P2 will not perform as well as a Samsung 970 Evo Plus.

## Allocation

If your server performs amazing during non-peak hours and feels bogged down during peak hours, chances are the provider is overselling their hardware. A good example is if the host node has 100GB RAM and the provider allocates 200GB RAM on the machine to their clients, the server will not perform well during those peak hours as you don't get the hardware you paid for this is the same for CPU usage.&#x20;

## Protection

Does the provider offer DDoS protection or any backups for network in case of main network outages? Does the provider scan their network for any attackers that are trying to brute force clients and actively mitigate such attacks?

### Opening the Remote Desktop Software

Most, if not all Windows machines come with remote desktop software pre-installed. Search for "**mstsc**" or "**Remote Desktop**" using the Windows Search/Start Menu function and open the Remote Desktop Connection app.

### Connect to the server

Find the IP of your server via the ZestyStore Dashboard and enter it into the text box, then click connect.\

Formats you might generally see: \
\- domain.com\
\- subdomain.domain.com\
\- 123.123.123.123\

If you changed your server port, please include it at the end of the IP with a colon in **123.123.123.123:12345** format.\
\
IP used as an example: 123.123.123.123

Enter in your username and password that's provided via the ZestyStore Panel and then click "OK."\

### Downloading the App

You may follow the next 2 steps below or you may download the beta version by clicking [**here**](https://aka.ms/rdmacbeta) without going through the app store, note that this version will have a blue icon. &#x20;

Open the App Store on your personal computer and search for "Windows App"

After the download is finished, open the app via Search or your Applications tab in Finder.

### Adding Your Remote Desktop Server

Once the app is open click on the "+" symbol and then click "Add PC" to add your server.&#x20;

Next step is to enter the IP into the computer name text box and then click "Add." You may find the server IP in your ZestyServers Panel. \

### Connect to the server

Open the server you have added in the previous step\

Enter in the username and password that are provided in your ZestyServers Panel along with the server IP and then click continue. \

### Adding a Group

Go to the top left corner and click **File** and then **Add**, you will then be prompted with the image below. The display name can be anything you want. After this is done, click **OK**.

### Adding your RDP Server

Once the new document is created, right click on the name of the document and click **Add**, you can also hover over **Add** and click Remote **Desktop**.

You will now be prompted with the **Remote Desktop Connection Settings** for Royal TS. The display name can be anything. **Computer Name** will be your **server IP**. \
\
IP used as an example: 123.123.123.123\
\
The **default port** will be 3389, if you have [**changed your RDP port**](/security/rdp-change/zestytool), enter that port in place of 3389.\
Don't click OK just yet, you'll need to enter your credentials next.

After you have configured the server IP and port, go ahead and click on **Credentials**. \
Here you will need to click on **Specify username and password**. \
\
Enter in your username and password that's provided via the [ZestyStore Panel](https://zestystore.com/dashboard/servers) and then click **OK**.\
Our default username is **Administrator**.

After you've saved the configuration, you can now double click on your server, and it will connect!

# Connect to server (iOS)

### Downloading the App

Go to the app store and download the Microsoft Remote Desktop, also known as the RD (Remote Desktop) Client app.

### Adding Your Remote Desktop Server

Open the app called "RD Client" or "Microsoft Remote Desktop" via your home screen.&#x20;

Tap on the orange "+" in the top right to add a server, then after click "Add PC."&#x20;

Find the IP of your server via the ZestyServers Panel and enter it into the "PC Name" section and then click save. If you have changed your server port, please ensure to include it. \

Type in the username and password from your Zesty dashboard. The default username should be **Administrator**. After this, click save twice.&#x20;

### Connect to the Server

Tap on the server you have just added to connect to the server.&#x20;

# Connect to server (Android)

How to connect to your server via the RD Client app using an Android device.

### Downloading the App

Go to the Play Store and install Remote Desktop 8, also known as the RD Client app.

### Adding Your Remote Desktop Server

Open the app called "RD Client" or "Microsoft Remote Desktop" via your home screen.

Tap on the **+** sign in the top right corner and tap on **Desktop**. After this, you will see another popup, tap on the **Add Manually** button.&#x20;

Find the IP of your server via the ZestyServers Panel and enter it into the "PC Name" section and then click save. If you have changed your server port, please ensure to include it. \

If you changed your server port, please include it at the end of the IP with a colon in **123.123.123.123:12345** format.\

# Connect to server (Linux)

How to remote into a server using Remmina in Linux. Includes Debian, Ubuntu, CentOS/RHEL, & Fedora.

Remmina Remote Desktop Client is an open source, free and powerful remote desktop sharing tool for Linux and Unix based system. It offers feature-rich useful tools for the administrator and travelers to have easy and smooth remote access.\
\
Open the terminal/command line on your linux based system. To install Remmina, use the following command lines for the operating system you are currently running.  <br>

We will be using Ubuntu as an example. \
If prompted for a password, enter in the password for the account.

After installed, you should be able to open the app via your system apps menu. \
Make sure to change the VNC option in the top left to "RDP" then click on the green plus arrow next to it.&#x20;

After clicking on the green plus with the RDP option to add a server, you will be prompted with a new window. After you are done, click save. \

# RDP Security, why?

Here, we will explain in detail why users should change their RDP port and add 2FA to their servers.

### What is RDP and is it secure?

RDP or remote desktop protocol was developed by the Microsoft corporation. RDP itself allows you to connect to a machine remotely via the public internet but by doing this you expose yourself to the public internet via port 3389, this is a security concern. ### Does Zesty offer tools to help me?

We offer two different tools, RDPHelper and ZestyTool.

### Keep your server updated.

Keeping your server updated will help against RDP attacks due to the fact that there will be flaws in the RDP protocol that are updated and patched via Microsoft. Although this is rare, we highly recommend keeping your server updated or to check for updates once a week.&#x20;

### What is Zesty doing to help prevent brute force?&#x20;

Here at Zesty we use the honeypot method; we have setup our network to allow attackers to brute force specific machines that we have setup publicly. # Setup 2FA (TOTP)

How to setup RDP 2FA with RDPHelper and Google Authenticator.

Go to the **Settings** page of RDPHelper by clicking on the Settings tab on the left side.

Once you've scanned the QR code to your device, click on the Next button. RDPHelper will then ask you to **verify** using the code from your 2FA TOTP app.

Once you click Verify, RDPHelper will show you a backup code. Please note down this backup code somewhere safe in case you lose access to the TOTP codes.&#x20;

We would recommend disabling 2FA for whitelisted IP addresses, so you don't have to input a code each time you login from your home IP.

Click on the **IP Management** tab and you should see the screen below and then click on **Whitelist**.

To blacklist an IP, all you need to do is click on **Add IP** and type/paste in the IP address.

Click on the **RDP Audit** tab on the left-hand side of RDPHelper.

You will be asked to enter your old server password and a new server password.&#x20;

Once you've done so, click the **Set Password** button.

After you click Set Password, RDPHelper will change your Windows Password.

# Change RDP Port

How to change your RDP port using RDPHelper.

Click on the **RDP Audit** tab on the left-hand side of RDPHelper.

We recommend you pick a 5-digit port as Windows services generally don't use 5-digit ports.

After you click Apply, you will be asked to reboot your server. Make sure that you've saved your port number somewhere safe.&#x20;

Once the machine has rebooted, you'll be able to connect to the server again using the new port.

### Changing Your Port

Run **ZestyTool** as **Administrator**.

Once you've opened **ZestyTool** (right click and **Run as administrator**), go to the **RDP Security** tab and click **Change**.

**Do NOT** restart the server until you have **saved** the port number that the port has changed to onto your local machine or your notes.

### Reconnecting

After you have changed the port and rebooted/server the server, you will then need to connect using IP:PORT thereafter. \

Example: 123.123.123.123:12345

## MANUALLY CHANGE

**IF YOU USE THE ZESTY TOOL, YOU WON'T NEED TO FOLLOW THE STEPS BELOW**

Pick a port you want for your new RDP (default is 3389, you don't want this).\
You may use any port from 1-65535. \
This excludes ports 20, 22, 25, 80, 345, 443. \
Use a random 5 digit number **you can memorize** or generate a random port and memorize/save it: <https://bit.ly/customport5>\
We recommend any 5 digit port.&#x20;

We will need to unblock the port you choose first so let's get started, open up **Windows Firewall with Advanced Security** and click "**New Rule...**" on the *right hand side*.&#x20;

Leave the port as a TCP Port and the input the specified local port as the port you want to use for your RDP connections. \
We've chosen 3385 in this example.&#x20;

Make sure you tick **Allow the connection** for this step and then make sure all check boxes are checked for the next step.

When naming, you want to choose something easy to remember just in case you ever want to change the RDP port.&#x20;

Now we're going to actually change the RDP port inside of the registry editor.&#x20;

Start **Registry Editor**.&#x20;

## VERY IMPORTANT SECTION (Read Everything)

Locate and then click the following registry subkey: **HKEY\_LOCAL\_MACHINE\System\CurrentControlSet\Control\Terminal Server\WinStations\RDP-Tcp\PortNumber**\
\
You want to navigate your way through regedit until you have the file **RDP-Tcp** selected, then you will be able to scroll down and find **PortNumber** on the right hand side.&#x20;

On the **Edit** menu, click **Modify**, and then click **Decimal**. Make sure you click Decimal **BEFORE** you change the value. \
\
We cannot stress this enough, change the option to **Decimal, VERY IMPORTANT!**&#x20;

Type the new port number, and then click **OK**. Save the port somewhere safe so you don't forget it.&#x20;

Restart/reboot the computer and you're good to go.

### Adding a User to Duo

Default username should be "Administrator"\
You will also be able to set Administrator as an alias under different account names. \
In our case, we use zestyadmin but for ALL zesty clients, you should be using Administrator.&#x20;

Download and install the Duo Authentication for Windows Logon installer package onto your **server**. \

# How do I restart my server?

Windows might feel a bit sluggish after being left on for too long, here's how to restart your server. Please note, you won't lose any data by doing this.

# How to change RDP resolution

In this guide, we'll be going over how to change the resolution of your server on Windows, macOS, Android, and iOS devices.

### Change Resolution (Windows)

First, open the **Remote Desktop Connection** application on your Windows Device and click **Show Options**

# Is Discord on a server safe?

Discord is built with Electron, an open source framework that uses a modified version of Chrome to run the app. Discord could easily run up 2GB worth of RAM in your server. We would recommend running discord on your local machine to save RAM on the server.&#x20;

Discord also shouldn't be ran on the server for your own security, although we trust our servers, we would like you to take as many steps as you can to secure your own belongings. Change the RDP port, don't login to your main email via chrome/browser and use the Discord app via browser but logout after each session.

# How to setup a proxy on a server

Note that this will ensure that windows runs off of a proxy.

Go to the **Start Menu** and search for **Proxy**, then after click on **Change proxy settings**.

# Things to check on before drops

Restart/reboot the server before any drop to ensure nothing goes wrong, after saving your tasks and proxies of course. Leaving a server on day and night, you will start to feel some lag, just restart the machine and it should be good to go within 20-30 seconds. \
\
Before **ANYTHING**, please read the guide to your bots. Make sure **all** prerequisites are installed.&#x20;

**A.** Make sure Windows is updated, run the updates a day before and make sure the server reboots.

**B.** Make sure all bot prerequisites are installed and up to date, check their discord server for any new additions. I.E. if the bot requires Microsoft Redistributable 2010 x86, then install the 2010 version, not 2012.&#x20;

**C.** Make sure the bot itself is updated, updates can be pushed out even 30 minutes before a drop so keep your eyes peeled.&#x20;

**D.** Don't test proxies too much, they will get blacklisted before a drop if tested too many times.&#x20;

**E.** Try **NOT** to run Discord on the server as it can eat up to 4GB of RAM and up to 30% CPU. \
Discord uses chrome as it is built in electron and WILL run your server hardware up. Run discord on your phone or local PC.&#x20;

**F.** Make sure the right version of Java and/or NodeJS is installed for your bot, most bots require you to install the 64-bit version. \

## Verify Installation

After NodeJS and npm have installed, go into command prompt and type "**node -v**" and "**npm -v**"\
This will verify that you've installed NodeJS with NPM package manager.

## Install .NET 5.0 & .NET 6.0

To install .NET 5.0, you can use the ZestyTool tool downloader to install or download it directly from the Microsoft website.

# Can I have a refund?

Our refund policy

### Card Refunds

We have a **no refund policy**.

You may cancel your subscription of the server for the current billing period after logging into the user dashboard. When you subscribe to a server, you will only be charged for the plan you use at the billing frequency you choose. You will not be charged for any bandwidth of the server (unless said user has abused our network).

> **Refunds are only given out at our discretion.**&#x20;

If we have deemed it necessary or was caused by an issue on our end then it will be promptly issued, which should reflect on your card within 3-5 days.

> **What if I changed my mind and want to cancel for a refund?**&#x20;

If allowed by an admin under extreme circumstances, admins reserve the right to charge you an administrative restocking fee of **5.00%** of the order total, alongside with a debit/credit card processing fee of (**2.9-3.9% + $0.30**) before you are given a full or prorated refund (determined by the administrators). Service fees will be calculated using the full payment of the service before the prorated refund is applied.&#x20;

> **How are prorated refunds calculated?**&#x20;

Prorated refunds are calculated by how many days you have used of the service.&#x20;

# How does billing work?

We auto renew clients on a month-to-month basis using stripe. All credit/debit data and billing information is encrypted and not stored within any of our databases. You are able to terminate the server through the Zesty dashboard (<https://zestystore.com>) if needed.&#x20;

If the payment has failed, we will try to again during the following few days. If the payment doesn't succeed within the 3 grace day period we will have to terminate the server and put it back up for stock on the website.&#x20;

# Apply discount code after order?

Yes, if you have not purchased your server with a discount code then the code may be applied after the billing date. Note that we will not refund the difference of the original price and price with the discount.&#x20;

We will only guarantee an application of a discount code if you ask within 30 days of your original purchase date.&#x20;


# Which Crypto Currency do we accept?

Crypto / Stables that we accept:

# What do I do if I missed a payment?

Please open a ticket if your monthly payment has failed.

All subscriptions have a grace period of 3 days after the first payment has failed. This means that the payment will be retried 3 times after the first payment failure.&#x20;

To update your billing, please do so by using our website's dashboard or by contacting support. If all payments have been missed then the subscription will automatically terminate, and your service will be wiped/destroyed without question.&#x20;


# Troubleshooting Guide

Guide to help you troubleshoot lag to your server.

## **Basic troubleshooting**&#x20;

1\. Have you checked task manager to see if you're using less than 95% of your CPU and RAM?\
2\. Have you restarted your server within the last week? If not, please do so as soon as possible. \
3\. Have you tried to reboot your local machine? If not, please reboot it as soon as possible.\
4\. Do you have discord installed on the server? If yes, uninstall it and use the browser version.\
5\. If you're from overseas, have you tried our RDP accelerator? If not, generate it on the site.

## Steps in case the above don't work

Note that **ALL** steps below should be done on your local/home computer and not your server. Do **not** change any network settings on the server.

Open **Remote Desktop** app and click on the **settings** cogwheel and then click on **Preferences**.&#x20;

Click on the **DNS** tab. \
You will now be able to enter DNS servers, if there are any DNS server inside of the box, delete them. \
There will be something in there but it should be greyed out before you enter the new DNS servers.\

Click on the **Add (+)** button in the bottom left hand corner. \
\
Type in the following DNS servers for **US/UK**:\
Preferred DNS Server: **1.1.1.1**\
Alternate DNS Server: **1.0.0.1**\
Type in the following DNS servers for **Asia**:\
Preferred DNS Server: **8.8.8.8**\
Alternate DNS Server: **8.8.4.4**\

Click **OK** and you should be good to go!&#x20;


# How to check when the Windows server crashed?

Open **Event Viewer** on your Windows server.

On the **Event Viewer** window, expand the drop-down on the left menu for **Windows Logs** and select **System.** Then on the right menu click **Filter Current Log**.

On the **Filter Current Log** window, check the boxes for **Critical**, **Warning**, and **Information**. For the event ID, enter **6005** and click **OK**.

Now you will see the logs for all events with event ID **6005**, you can click them and read the description and details of each event to find the reason for the unexpected crash.

# Why does it say my server is located elsewhere?

We get our IP's from RIPE & ARIN, RIPE is the European RIR for IP addresses. We then transfer and geo-locate our IP's over to the US and announce the IP's at the US datacenter.&#x20;

Our ARIN IPs may also say that they're from different locations (CA/MX). Google and Amazon may take months to update locations.&#x20;

The announcement takes a couple weeks to geo-locate the IP addresses. Please make sure to use proxies for optimal speeds. Note that amazon and some other databases only update every 6-12 months. \
\
Note that your server is in the location of sale. If you buy a VA server then it will be a server physically located in VA.&#x20;

# What kind of speeds should I be seeing?

When pinging websites, you should be seeing the lowest pings in most cases, max ping if you are running a lot of network intensive software in the background. You might also see network impact if you are running up the CPU and/or RAM.

For download/upload speeds, this will depend on which server plan you get as CPU & RAM definitely do limit the capabilities of a full 40Gbps link. The higher the specs, the higher the download and upload speeds will be. A 40Gbps link will allow us to stop the bottlenecking between servers running for the same drop.

We HIGHLY recommend that you leave the DNS servers as the preset default DNS servers as we have direct peering with CloudFlare and would like the best connection possible for you.&#x20;


# Should I update my server when I get it?

Yes, you should always run Windows updates when your windows server is newly deployed. Updates may take a while so be prepared to wait a bit before reconnecting after the initial restart.&#x20;
